Mourning Andrew Hyett

It is with great sadness that we report on local Liberal Democrat member and colleague Andrew Hyett, who died recently due to leukaemia. Andrew campaigned in 2021 to be a councillor in Holloway with a focus on practical steps to reduce knife crime, a scourge that continues to affect our communities four years on. His campaign was carried out with his customary passion, dedication and good nature, which was warmly welcomed by the voters he met and fondly remembered by the local team of members who helped him. Andrew truly wanted to make a difference and, had he won, he would have made a fine councillor.
Andrew was given a terminal diagnosis in 2023 with 6 months to live. However, he fought the condition until this year and was able to celebrate 25 years together with his husband, Andrew, on 21 January 2025. He also completed his bucket list, including flying a Spitfire (Andrew was an accomplished pilot), exploring Pompeii and enjoying a last camping trip to the South of France.
Andrew's funeral will be taking place in March at the Hemel Hempstead Crematorium. For those who knew him and would be interested in attending, please contact his husband for further details or email us at chair@islingtonlibdem.com.
