Stand Up for Struggling Neighbours!

“I remember sitting in the dark, too scared to turn on a light or the heating,” says Sarah, a long-time Islington resident. “After years of helping this community, I never thought I’d have to choose between food and warmth.”

For too many people in Islington, this is their reality. Families skipping meals, elderly neighbours wrapped in blankets to save on heating bills, and single parents struggling to pay rising costs. A 10% rise in energy prices, cuts to government support, and the scrapping of the Winter Fuel Allowance have left our most vulnerable friends and neighbours in crisis.

“This isn’t just about numbers—it’s about real people, like Sarah," says Kevin Chun, a Liberal Democrat campaigner for Clerkenwell. "I know what it feels like to make impossible choices. That’s why the Islington Liberal Democrats are fighting to make sure no one in our community is left behind. Our goal is simple: to stand up for those who need help the most.”

Islington Liberal Democrats are calling on the Labour-run council and the government to act now. We demand an extra £150 payment for people facing serious hardship this year.
